Prerequisites
STEP 1: Download the software here.
STEP 2: Extract/ execute the Installer, signed by Definitive Data Security, Inc.
STEP 3: If prompted to Reboot, you must do so for proper operation.
Provision your First Test Account
STEP 4: Double-click the Desktop SSProtect Shortcut -OR- right-click the SSProtect icon in the notification tray then choose Refresh Login. Both display the Login dialog:
STEP 5: Click the Profile dropdown and choose, Create New... to display the Create Account dialog.
STEP 6: Check :Recover and :Email but do NOT check Org, then enter the Email Address of the Test Account you will use.
NOTE: We strongly encourage the use of a single Gmail address using aliases for this and the subsequent Accounts we create and use throughout this series.
STEP 7: Click Create... to continue.
STEP 8: Check your email for the message Subject, [SSProtect] Create Account from ssp-admin@definisec.com (slightly different here). This message includes the Code you need:
STEP 9: Enter the Code, from the email message, into the Code edit box of your Create Account dialog, as shown below. Continue with Verify:*
STEP 10: Create/ enter your New Pwd (twice) for this Account - you will use this to Login to SSProtect. Click Change to Provision:*
* Your Server designation will be ssp.secdefini.com or similar, rather than the non-public instance noted for our team's internal use.
1st Time Use Progression
This sequence represents 1st Time Use as described in the linked article, specific to your Test Account.
STEP 11: You will be prompted to set your Default Folder, the default for Reports, exported Key Files, and a location that can be remapped when using your Test Account on other host computers. Choose Yes:
STEP 12: Browse to/ create C:\TestData (aligns w/ subsequent Walkthroughs), choose Select Folder.
STEP 13: You will be prompted to Export Account Keys, which as an Individual Account you MUST do. Choose Yes to proceed:
STEP 14: Create/ enter a Password (and Confirmed value) for the Key File, different from your Login, then OK to finish.
STEP 15: You will then be prompted to install the :Email Add-In for Microsoft Outlook. Choose Yes.
