This article guides you through the use of a Registration Email to provision your SSProtect Account.
Prerequisites
This article assumes you have installed the SSProtect :Foundation Client as described in, Installing the :Foundation Client, and have a Registration Email with temporary credentials. If you do not have temporary credentials, follow the procedure in the article, Creating an Account.
NOTE: Registration Email provides temporary credentials that are available for 24 hours. If you attempt to Register your Account this timeframe, you will not be able to proceed. Contact Support if you need new temporary credentials.
Registration
SSProtect is configured to start when you login to Windows, and remains idle until you perform an action that requires its involvement. To Register, do one of the following:
- Double-click the SSProtect desktop shortcut created during Install
- Click the, 'D' icon in the Windows notification tray
- Right-click the, 'D' icon in the Windows notification tray, then choose Refresh Login...
Any of these should display the Login UI, which without prior use will display the following:
For those that have already provisioned one or more Accounts, the Profile dropdown will include the last one used while focus will be on the Password edit control (and a different hint at the bottom):
In both cases, click the Profile dropdown control then choose, Register Existing... (always 2nd from the top) to display the Register dialog:
Enter the Username and Password from your Registration Email then click Register. If your credentials match, you will be prompted to create a permanent password for subsequent Login.
Password Policy
Create your new password by entering it twice (as seen by the resulting dialog) then click Change. Your entries must match, and must also adhere to the Organization's Password Policy. If not, you will receive an error and be returned to the dialog to try again.
If you are the one Administrator creating the Organization (by nature of being the first to Register for it), you will not (yet) have a Password Policy - and as such, any choice will be sufficient.
You can change your Password anytime. Individual Account holders and Privileged Organization Users can also create/ change/ update Password Policy anytime. For more information, refer to the article, Password Policies.
Differences between an Administrator and Everyone Else
If you are the one Organization Administrator, you will be returned to the Login prompt to proceed. Else, you will receive a message indicating that your Account must be Validated before you can Login.
Validation
If you are not the Organization Administrator, SSProtect will not enable your Account until a Privileged User contacts you to verify that your Registration credentials weren't intercepted and used by someone else. Because protected content is readily available to authorized Organization Peers, this step is crucial since in-person Validation provides the best mechanism for making certain the procedure has been carried out as expected, by authorized Users.
Once Validation is completed, you will receive an email message noting that you can proceed with Login. Return to the Login UI using any of the methods given at the start of this article, and enter your credentials. This will transition you to the Startup sequence, described in the article, 1st-Time Use.
